Meet Matt clark

Fifteen seasons on pit road. Five championships. Over 50,000 pit stops personally timed.

I coached NASCAR championship pit crews at Hendrick Motorsports and Richard Childress Racing for drivers like Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick. But none of it started in a race shop. I’m a third-generation contractor who came up in a family-owned construction company, where I learned the value of an honest day’s work before I learned anything else. My crew is the men and women who roll up their sleeves on the shop floors, the job sites and the loading docks. Today I work with leaders and organizations building teams good people don’t leave.

CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE WON BEFORE RACE DAY

A champion’s mindset and skill set get built in the practice area. It’s simple: consistency breeds confidence, and confidence leads to sustained performance. Rep after rep, when nobody’s watching but you and your coach. That’s why championship teams don’t rise to the moment. They perform because they did the hard work.

Race wins were the expectation. Watching my team celebrate in victory lane was the reward.

Winning matters to me. But if you can’t bring others with you, is it really winning? Victory lane is sacred ground for true racers, and I never lost sight of the fact that one day the champagne and confetti would stop. My heart was full celebrating with crew members who paid a high price for that success. I still carry that mindset today working with leaders and organizations.

I win when they win.

I started competing again — not against anyone else, just against who I was the day before.

Got back in the gym. Devoured everything I could find on mindset, habits, and human performance. People in my circle started noticing the change and asking how they could do the same. That conversation became Compete Every Day®.
I started the brand in 2011, $60,000 in debt, selling t-shirts out of the trunk of my car. Fifteen years later, it’s a 7-figure performance brand worn by people in 62 countries — and the foundation for every keynote I’ve delivered since.

I’ve built a business. I’ve fought drift in my own company. And I’ve spent the last decade teaching leaders to recognize it before it costs them.

EVERY DAY LIFE

Matt and his wife Karen live just outside Charlotte, North Carolina, have two sons, Cody and Joshua along with a lap dog Roxie. When he’s not on a stage or in the fab shop, you’ll find him coaching high performers, pushing hard in the gym, or enjoying a good cigar. He makes sure to take time to pause, reflect, and connect with his faith and lives the mantra, “slow down to go fast”.

The Fast Car Cigar Connection

Fast Car Cigar was born out of my love for creativity, connection, and precision manufacturing. We upcycle used race car parts and craft CNC pieces into striking ashtrays that invite us to pause, reflect, and connect.

While working in NASCAR, I came to revere the people who chase a thousandth of an inch: the precision, the pride and the craft of fabricating works of art. That reverence is the genesis of two of my talks, The 5 Axis Leader and Jewelry for the Eyes.

The same respect for the machinist’s craft shapes how I speak to the blue collar teams who build the world with their hands.

In the race with you!

8 Values For Life

Race hard. Race fair.

Chase the win. Respect others on the way.

Keep your word.

Be someone your team can count on.

Own it.

Before blame, look in the mirror.

Don't be a show car.

Looks great parked. Can't run a lap.

You need a spotter.

Someone who sees your blind spots.

Nobody wins alone.

The driver gets the glory. The team is the story.

Do it right.

No shortcuts. Build it to last.

Leave it better.

The place, the people, the standard.
